Sam Wells has been finding out about the latest support services available to help employees manage mental health in the workplace.
Sam, administrator for COHS (Commercial Occupational Health Services Ltd), attended a mental health and wellbeing seminar to explore the importance of mental wellbeing and building resilience at work.
The event last Thursday (January 29), was held by Remploy Ltd, at the Centre for Health and Disability Assessments in Greek Street, Leeds. It was delivered by Angie Carr and Nicole Moore, who are disability and training specialists and accredited mental health first aid instructors for Remploy.
Nicole said: “One in four of us will be affected by mental health in any one year – that could be up to a quarter of your workforce.
“Developing resilience and mental health awareness can help you significantly reduce the cost to your business through reducing absence and increasing productivity.”
Those attending the seminar were able to explore the impact of mental health on organisations. That included mental health risk factors, managing mental wellbeing in the workplace and the importance of having a resilient workforce.
Sam said: “The seminar was an opportunity to find out more about the support services available to help manage mental health, and how to be more proactive about building resilience and managing mental wellbeing at work.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the seminar. The training was well delivered, and I came away with a much clearer idea of how to recognise and support mental ill health in the workplace.”
Last year, COHS signed a Mindful Employer initiative, aimed at increasing mental health awareness at work and providing on-going support to staff who may experience stress, anxiety or depression.
Dr Nicola Dann, Director and Founder of COHS, said: “By attending the seminar, we are demonstrating our ongoing commitment to raising mental health awareness at work and in providing continuous support to staff.”
