In light of recent headlines around the world, coronavirus is expected to have a significant impact on workplaces in the coming months.
With this is mind, we have put together a few top tips to help our clients and employers keep coronavirus out of their workplace.
Dr Nicola Dann, GP, director and founder of Commercial Occupational Health Services Ltd (COHS) is urging employers to review their flexible working policies. Where appropriate, COHS will be providing telephone-based reviews to support businesses when staff may be off sick.
The new virus, COVID-19, affects lungs and airways. Symptoms can include a cough, a high temperature and shortness of breath.
Dr Dann said: “Because the symptoms are similar to a cold or flu, it is important to remember these symptoms do not necessarily mean you have the illness.
“You only need to stay away from public places if advised to do so by a medical professional. Most people can continue to go about their daily business, such as work and school.”
There are a few simple steps you can take to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus.
Top Tips Include:
Encourage regular handwashing
Use soap and water for 20 seconds or hum the “Happy Birthday” song twice
Offer alcohol-based hand sanitisers around the workplace
Always wash hands when you arrive at work and at home
Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are unwashed
Avoid shaking hands and close contact
Consider an ‘elbow bump’ instead
Provide tissues
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when you cough or sneeze
Bin used tissues straightaway and wash your hands
